Dreams Reunion Dinner

23rd January 2009

It has been almost 2 weeks since the last blog. Things have been pretty busy but calm for both me and wifey. We did have slight argument but things got ironed out and we are as loving as before and maybe even more. Sometimes I wondered if we should quarrel more as that seems to enhance our relationship... but then during the quarrel process we are both very unhappy and that can last a couple of hours.

Tonight wifey will be coming to my workplace for a reunion dinner. All my colleagues and ex-colleagues will be coming as well. Wifey has been to my workplace a few times and get to know my current colleagues. He had also passed one of my colleagues a bottle of pineapple tarts made by my MIL.

When I reached office, me and my colleague started to get the food ready by defrosting them and cutting them into small portion for easy consumption. We also set up the table and chairs and have the cutlery ready for everyone who is coming later. Estimated will have about 15 pax. Halfway, I attended to my client for her counselling session and after that my colleague went out to collect the birthday cake for the January babies.

By around 7.00pm, everything has been set up and about 60% of the people had turn-up. Only left with wifey and also another 2 couples who are late. As the time is running late, we started off with the yu-sheng and we did a lo-hei with some of our clients (youths) who are in the centre. It was fun and everyone ate a bit of the yu-sheng for good luck.

After that we proceed to the steamboat and BBQ. It was fun but can see that everyone was shy at first and none of them dare to sit down to enjoy the steamboat. There are really a lot of foods (thanks to my boss) and once we started, things go on smooth and in no time, more people sat down to eat and talk. When wifey came, there is just one seat left next to me (I reserved for him) and so sat beside me and ate the food.

The actual turn-up results to exactly 15 pax including my boss's baby. The amazing thing is that almost everyone seems to have brought a partner along for some reason. For me, of course wifey is my partner. What caught my attention is my ex-colleague whom I suspected is a lesbian, brought a very pretty gal along with her. And most shocking is my currently male colleague as he brought back with him not only the cake but also a guy who is obviously gay and feminine.

Halfway eating, when me and wifey were kind of alone, we were discussing if that guy is my male colleague's partner. However, there is no way of proving and I did not intend to find out more since it is their private lives which they intend to keep it private. The only difference between them and us is the obvious care and concern I gave to wifey. I was taking food and soup for wifey and helping him in small chores for the steamboat dinner while my male colleague and his friend did their own things and mingle with other people without much conversation. In fact, it was this 'non-friendly' gesture that made me suspects that they are a pair, acting as much as possible that they are not.

After the food and when my boss's husband arrived we then proceed to bring out the cake that was kindly sponsored by my male colleague. According to wifey, that cake is not only very expensive but it is very tasty. The cake was brought from CANELE, and the chef is my male colleague's friend, that's why he wanted to sponsor the cake. The group then start singing birthday song while me, my boss and her husband and another female colleague sat together (we are the January babies) and blow out the single candle on the cake after the song. The cake was finished in no time as it was really tasty.

After the cake, all the people seem to form a group of their own to chit chat. I did not join my boss and male colleague as they are talking about work (so boring) joined by my ex-colleague (that lesbian). Me and wifey then asked another two couples and we play TABOO in another room. This whole thing lasted till about 12 midnight before both couples had to leave. Me and wifey also took the chance to leave with them as the rest outside are really boring talking about work stuff. Me and wifey then took a cab back to Tampines.
Inside the cab, we were talking about my male colleague and his friend. We have many guesses who he was and if they are a couple but at the end of the day, there is no conclusion. Similarly for my ex-colleague who is a lesbian. We too suspected that the gal she brought along is her partner. We felt that it is strange that one person will bring a stranger friend to attend reunion dinner unless that person is super closed. Even for me and wifey, at least wifey came over to my workplace before thus already knew my colleagues. For the other two, they both brought someone who has never come over and that is puzzling. Although we do not have an answer but we roughly knew it and we knew that we are not too far from the guess.

"Thank you wifey for joining me in this dinner."
"I really apperciate a lot for this."
"Ami tomake bhalobashi"
